Bengali Actor turned Former Trinamool Congress MP Tapas Pal passes away, at the age of 61 following a Cardiac Arrest in a Mumbai-based Private Hospital

Former Trinamool Congress MP & veteran Bengali actor Tapas Pal was 61 when he passed away due to cardiac arrest in a Mumbai-based hospital early Tuesday, 28th February 2020, at 4 A.M. In 2014, Tapas Pal won the Lok Sabha elections on TMC ticket, won and became MP from Krishna Nagar constituency. There are wife Nandini paul and a daughter Sohini paul in his family.

Tapas Paul was in Mumbai to greet her daughter. He complained of chest pain during his return to Kolkata at the Mumbai airport and was instantly rushed to a hospital in Juhu, Mumbai where he died around 4 am on 18th February 2020. The family said that he was suffering from heart problems and visited hospitals much time during the past few years.

He started his acting career from the film ‘Dadar Kirti’ in 1980 when he was only 22 years of age. He was awarded Filmfare for the movie ‘Saheb’ (1981). Born on September 28, 1958, he made his Bollywood debut in ‘Abodh’ in the year 1984 opposite Madhuri Dixit. He was popular amongst the people living in rural areas of Kolkata and that was the reason why he was chosen by Mamta Banerjee, TMC chief as a candidate of her party in 2009 Lok sabha election polls.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee wrote on twitter “Saddened & shocked to hear about the demise of Tapas Paul. He was a superstar of Bengali cinema who was a member of the Trinamool family. Tapas served the people as a two-term MP and MLA. We will miss him dearly. My condolences to his wife Nandini, daughter Sohini & his many fans”.

Tapas Paul was also arrested by the CBI for the questionable link up with rose valley chit fund in the year 2016. however, after 13 months was released from jail. The rose valley chit fund scam is said to be a bigger scam where Tapas Pal was found guilty.

Ranjit Mallick, a Bengali actor outlined Tapas Paul’s death as “untimely”. “I am yet to come to terms with the news. He was like my younger brother. Yes, he was not keeping well for some time,” he said.
